16 months

our little boy is growing fast and more like a toddler and less like a baby every day.

what he's up to:

  • Keeps adding more words and signs. Words:momma, daddy, cat, meow, ruff-ruff for dog, un-oh, wow, no, balloon, vroom for car and airplane, quack-quack, duck, bus, socks, book, bath, ball, belly button, yellow (he doesn't know what this means but he loves to say the word) Signs: milk, eat, hungry, more, hurt, cereal, banana, dog, cracker, shoes, flower, all done, and potty (doesn't know what this means either).
  • Loves to find his belly button. Also, nose and ears.
  • Loves to be silly, be tickled and snorts when he laughs
  • Starting to eat more foods. His favorite food right now is blueberries. He also likes a lot of not so good for you foods - chocolate and french fries. He also really likes it when we go out to eat and he gets to drink milk from a plastic cup with a straw.
  • Easy to put to bed. Still goes to bed early though this past week its been closer to 630 instead of 530 or 6. When he starts to act tired we ask him if he wants to go night-night. If he's ready he'll repeat back night-night and run to the gate. When we undo the gate he runs to his room so that we can change him. After we say night-night to all his animal friends, he has some milk, sometimes a book and into the crib he goes.
  • Loves to get attention when we go out. He waves at everyone to get them to wave back. If he really has their attention, he'll do high-5s with them and blow kisses.
  • Loves to be outside - playing in the yard, wagon rides, trips to the playground, walking to the mailbox.
  • He's starting to play with his stuffed animals. He'll give them kisses and hugs and carry them around with him. His favorite seems to be a little puppy - this toy was a gift to him from the Ritz Carlton where we stayed for our anniversary when I was pregnant.
  • Finally getting more teeth. All 4 molars are making their way in but he still has gaps in the front.

Happy Birthday Rob

Sunday was Rob's birthday. We celebrated the day by hanging out together and of course had some cake. In the morning we went out for breakfast and then to our new favorite park, Rio Vista Community Park. Its a really nice new park that has a great playground, splash park and ducks to feed. Later we played in the yard and playroom. Rob doesn't like cake but does like cupcakes, so he always gets a cupcake cake for his birthday. Brendan tried some and loved it (for his birthday he had fun playing with his cake and getting messy but didn't eat any of it) - he kept asking for more until we finally cut him off.

chocolate, yum

On Thursday we toured the Cerreta Candy company with my MOMs club. Its a family owned candy factory located in downtown Glendale. Brendan had his first exposure to chocolate other the small piece that I gave him on Easter and he loved it - he tried a mint truffle and a chocolate break-away which were samples given out during the tour. The older kids made chocolate pizzas - they give you a mold with chocolate and 'pizza toppings' to decorate (chips, mint chips, walnuts, raisons, etc) and cheese (white chocolate).

Sunday playdate with Chase

Chase came over to play on Sunday. We started outside but it got too cold and windy so we ended up in the playroom. They're getting to an age where they are starting to interact instead of just playing near each other. The boys were getting a little silly jumping on the ottomans.

Earlier in the day, I was doing some cleaning. Brendan insisted on taking over the 'swiffer'ing - he's actually very good at it and was running all over the house cleaning.

glimpse into the future

Every once in awhile, we snap a picture of Brendan where he looks several years older than he it. There's one in particular from January where he looks like he's 3 or 4 and not just 1 year old. Here's another from this past weekend - I don't think he looks as old as in the other one, but older than 15 months:

Happy Easter

The Easter bunny hid eggs filled with cereal and puffs in the playroom along with a basket (he also brought baskets for myself, Rob and Nicole). Brendan ran around picking up all the eggs and putting them in the in a basket. He was surprised that there were things in the eggs since he's been playing with them for a few weeks and they've always been empty. After he found all the eggs he went for his basket and investigated all of his new toys - the biggest hits so far are the large spikey ball, the basketball net for the bath and a Thomas the train that makes noise. He also decided it would be fun to wear his easter basket - silly boy.

blog changes

You've probably noticed that I've made a few changes to the blog. The version of blogger has so many more options than before so you may find more changes as I play around. I added some lists of Brendan's favorite books and toys which I'll update as those change plus a few lists of my favorites as a parent. I've also added more blogs to my list - if you have your own blog, send me your link so that I can add it to our list. Blogs are addicting so its always fun to have more to follow. And there are the links to my Simply Sweets sites (website and a blog). If you haven't visited my Simply Sweets blog, take a look. Right now I have a poll posted - please cast your vote!

Desert Botanical Gardens

Today Brendan and I joined my MOMs club for an outing at the Desert Botanical Gardens. It was our first trip there and its a neat place. They have a special butterfly exhibit going on right now which Brendan really enjoyed.

Brendan and mommy day

To celebrate my birthday, I decided I wanted to go on a fun outing and spend time with Brendan so we went to the zoo. We hadn't been in a few months and Brendan was definately a lot more into it now that he's older. He liked looking at all the animals and especially liked the petting zoo. The zoo has a special exhibit of stingrays where you can pet them - I got to touch them but Brendan was scared to put his hands in the water with stingrays swimming all around.

Glendale's Spring Extravaganza

On Saturday morning we took Brendan to Glendale's Spring Extravaganza. They had an easter egg hunt, bubble zone, train ride, jumpers, craft projects and pictures with the Easter Bunny. The cool part was that everything was free (except for the pictures). Brendan had fun being outside and around all the kids but still a little young to understand all the easter activities. He also wasn't too into seeing the Easter bunny. He did get 2 Easter eggs and liked the train ride.
