Brendan's two months old

Well, there isn't actually a 2 month birthday since there isn't a February 29th this year, so we're celebrating it today. If Dana had the time she'd like to make him a cake, but he normally doesn't sit still long enough to give her a chance.

He had a check up at the doctor and they confirmed that he's a big boy (and that he's a little flirt). Here's the particulars:

Weight: 14 lb 8 oz 93rd percentile
Height: 23 3/4 in 80th percentile
Head circumference: 38 cm (not sure on the percentile)

So, he eats alot. OK, a HECK of a lot.

He's gotten over his little cold. We got the humidifier and he seems to like that. He went to his Gymboree class with him mom and Grandma Leslie. He really like when they sing to him and he had fun playing with the parachute. He loves to look at other little babies. Dana likes talking to the other moms to get a sense of how he's doing relative to other little ones. I also learned that he likes it when I whistle along to the toddler music cd's that we play for him.

Brendan's Grandma Pat is coming to town next weekend so I'm sure he'll like all that extra attention.

So, on with the pictures:

Finally, an update!

Well, Brendan's gotten himself his first cold. He's doing fine, but he has a stuffed nose. We took him to the Doctor and they just prescribed the use of a humidifier. So I made a run to the drug store and we got him all set up. He seemed better today, though its probably because he wasn't very sick in the first place. We got confirmation that Brendan is a big boy. He weighed in at just under 14 pounds.

Dana took Brendan to his Gymboree class today. She said he doesn't pay much attention to her. He loves to look at the other babies and when his teacher sings to him. He also likes his baby massages. It's been good for her to spend time with other moms to gauge how he's doing. All the other babies are a little older than Brendan, but he seems to be doing just about everything that they are doing. He smiles alot more. He also does a really good job holding his head up and really likes to look at our shutters.

He had been sleeping pretty well, but the last couple nights with his cold, he's been a bit crabby. As a result Dana hasn't gotten much sleep at all. It's 9:30 here in San Diego and they've both been asleep for about an hour now, so I'll type quietly to let them sleep. Our kittens have gotten in to the routine with Dana and Brendan at night. Whenever he cries it is piped through our baby monitor so the girls get up and walk over to his room to wait for Dana to come back out. It's sweet.

Here's some pictures!

Brendan's new toy

Brendan loves to look at himself in the mirror so today we went to Babies R Us to buy a new toy. He has spent the last hour playing - tummy time and on his back looking at the mirror and swatting at the toys.

'How is he sleeping' is a question that everyone has been asking. He sleeps like a 6 week old - usually goes to bed around 9 and wakes up between 7-9 waking up 2 to 3 times to feed with 3-4 1/2 stretches of sleep. Friday evening he slept for a 6 1/2 hour stretch! unfortunately, this hasn't been repeated.

Less pictures, more update

So Brendan is a big boy. Today I held him and stood on our bathroom scale. Dial turned to 179. I put the boy in his crib and got back on the scale. 165. Subract one from the other and you get 14 pounds. Granted, this is a bit of a crude measurement (those numbers on the dial are pretty small) but its probably pretty close. If he is 14 pounds then he's gained about 1 lb per week. Today my mom and I made a run to Target to pick up some size 2 diapers since the 1-2s don't quite do the job anymore. We've had to archive some of his newborn clothes because they just don't fit. Needless to say, but all the eating that leads to this weight gain means he's keeping Dana busy. But she's doing really well and is a fantastic mother (and wife).

We've learned the hard way that he HATES driving around in his car seat. We made a run to Dairy Queen last night and he basically screamed the whole way. By the time we got there I needed a stiff drink more than a chocolate shake. Dana's been checking on some of the mom message boards on the Internet and she was heartened to hear other moms say their kids went through the same thing and it only lasted a couple weeks. We'll hold on to that!

As I indicated earlier, my mom is in town for a couple days to see Brendan. He like being held by her and has spent lots of time sleeping in her arms. We're hoping maybe she can make it back for spring break in March. Here's a picture of him getting a little Grandma time.

The many faces of Brendan

This is what a baby on a milk high looks like.

The first step is acknowledging you have a problem, son!

When he's not shaking off the effects of a good drink of milk, Brendan likes to dress in his favorite outfit that makes him look sort of space alien meets Christmas elf. We think he's cute.

Last, but not least, here's Brendan doing his best impersonation of his dad.

Here's a fun one of him with his binkie.

Let's try for another update

Here's the picture of Brendan comparing his birthday to his one month anniverary.

We'd have to update his report card from his birthday. He definitely can keep his head steady now and is able to lift his head 90 degrees. He'll smile every once in awhile.

Dana took Brendan to a Gymboree class and she said that Brendan really liked looking at all the other babies. He got to play with bubbles and a parachute and I think he even got Momma to sing to him.

I taught Brendan to use a binkie this weekend. He's doing pretty well with it and it's helped keep Brendan calm between feedings. I tried a bottle this weekend, too. He tried a little bit, but I wasn't very good at it and he didn't really like it. We'll try again later.

Here's another recent picture, and a picture of his binkies!

Blogspot is acting weird

This is a test post...the last 3 times I've tried to post it's been deleted. Sorry for the lack of information... Brendan is doing tremendously well!!
