5 months

Today is Brendan's 5 month birthday. Its amazing how much he has changed - he so much more alert, plays with his toys, smiles, laughs and giggles and just in the last few days he has started rolling over (back to front - he hasn't learned yet how to roll from his tummy to his back). He also loves to suck on his toes!

This weekend we got to go out on our first date since Brendan was born while Grandma Brown babysat. We went out for some Mexican food and then saw Da Vinci Code. I did pretty good being away from him for a couple hours, but I started to worry and wanted to get home to see him. The movie was pretty good - certainly true to the book.

playdate with Chase

This Saturday Brendan had a playdate with Chase - many of you know Chase as the "baby in the blog linked on your site". Chase is one day younger than Brendan (though he's 1 pound heavier and an inch or so longer!).

In the last few weeks Brendan has discovered his feet - he loves batting at toys on his activity mat or just running in place on a blanket. He also likes to grap his toes with his hands and like a little monkey is starting to grab toys with his feet.

Brendan outgrew his infant carseat at 4 months - here he is testing out his new seat

Cereal, yum!

We decided to start Brendan on rice cereal starting with just a few spoonfuls every day to get him used to eating from a spoon. He did pretty well and we think he actually ate some.

House update:

The front yard landscaping is done (one side only, the other side needs to wait until the pool is complete) and the pool is getting closer to completion.

Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day to all the moms!

Brendan gave me the best mother's day present - he slept through the night going back to his old schedule. He hasn't been doing as well with sleep lately so it was wonderful to get a full nights sleep - hopefully this will continue.

Rob made me breakfast this morning and I got to eat it sitting on the couch watching TV while Brendan slept in until 9. We haven't had TV since we moved into our house due to some wiring issues so it was great to catch up on some HGTV.

Meet Nicole

Here's a photo of Nicole and Brendan. Nicole is our au pair from South Africa living us for a year to take care of Brendan while we work. Nicole has adjusted well and there aren't too many things that are new to her here. Mexican food was new and she's already hooked. She also thinks everything here is so cheap (even gas!). Her favorite color is pick so she loves shopping here since everything is available in her favorite color.

Dana gets out of the house

Because Brendan eats often and doesn't care for a bottle, I haven't really had the chance to get out of the house by myself since Brendan was born. This Saturday Rob and Rob's mom watched Brendan while I went out to get my hair cut and went to the mall. I even got to take the BMW since I didn't need to have the carseat with me. Brendan doesn't have the patience sitting in the stroller to let me shop for clothes so this was my first chance and I did a lot of shopping! We hoped that with me out of the house he might want to take a bottle but instead he just decided to wait until I got home - at least I got out for awhile and we'll try again.

Brendan's two favorite things are to put everything in his mouth (toys, his hand, my finger) and to stand up with us holding him. He doesn't want to lay on back anymore to play - instead he wants to sit up or stand up but he has at least a few more months until he can do these on his own.

House update:
This past week they put in the waterfall for the pool. Next steps are the pebbletec, tile, flagstone and fence which will all hopefully be done mid June.

Front yard landscaping continues to progress. They put in the palms, plants, and flowers. This week they should finish with the grass and granite.

4 month checkup

Brendan went for his 4 month checkup on Tuesday and he checked out healthy. He weighed in at 18 pounds and is 26.5 inches long. That puts him in the 90% for both stats. He got his 4 month shots which made him very fussy yesterday afternoon but we survived and he's in a much better mood this morning.
